Bowel cancer isn't just ‘an old person’s disease’. While the majority of newly diagnosed bowel cancer cases occur in people aged 50 years and over, 1 in 9 (11%) Australians diagnosed with bowel cancer are under the age of 50.
In 2024, there was an estimated risk that 1 in 21 people would be diagnosed with colorectal cancer by the time they are 85 (1 in 19 for males and 1 in 23 for females).
